********************************** HACKICON *********************************
HACKICON is Copyright (c) 1986 by Doug Walker, with parts Copyright (c) 1985
by MICROSMITHS. Feel free to redistribute this program or whatever you
wish, but any commercial use of it should be cleared with the author.
HACKICON is an editor designed to allow you to change the icons that HACK
uses. To use it, simply type 'hackicon'. HACK expects its icons to be in
the file 'characters'. HACKICON will edit this file by default; if you
would like to edit a different file, type 'hackicon -f <filename>' instead.
The screen in HACKICON is divided into four boxed-in areas. The area in the
upper left is the palette; to the right of the palette is the icon editor;
in the upper right are program exit commands; and in the lower half of the
screen is the font display area.
************************** HOW TO EDIT AN ICON: ****************************
First click on the image of the icon in the font display area. A box will
be drawn around the icon to indicate that it is current, and the icon's image
will appear in the icon editor area both at seven times actual size and at
actual size.
Next, click on a color from the palette. The patch immediately to the right
of the palette will change color to indicate your choice.
Click in the expanded icon image in the icon editor area. The pixel you
clicked on will change colors to match your current color.
To save your changes to the font display area, simply select a different
icon. The icon in the edit area will replace the current icon in the font
display area. BEWARE! if you SAVE the font without saving the changes to
the font area, your changes will be LOST! When you save the font, what
gets saved is exactly what appears in the font display area.
To cancel any changes you may have made, either click on the 'Reset' gadget
in the FONT EDITOR area or select the current icon in the font display area
again.
************************** HOW TO CHANGE THE COLORS *************************
First, click on the color you want to change in the palette area. Next,
use the 3 sliding gadgets to adjust the Red, Green and Blue components of
the color. Clicking on the 'Reset' button restores the colors to the way
they were when they were read in.
********************** HOW TO GET OUT OF THE PROGRAM ************************
If you want to save your changes, click on the 'Save' gadget in the upper
right corner. If you want to quit without changing, click on the 'Quit'
gadget.
************************** HOW TO COMPLAIN **********************************
First, a caveat: This was my first project upon getting my Amiga, and it
is still a little rough. I didn't get to the sections of the manual on
menus and requestors, so get off my back already. I am planning to expand
the program and add all these neat little features, and it will be included
in a future release of HACK. The primary concern now is to put some means
of controlling the icon fonts in your hands right away. Now that that is
out of the way, here are the addresses to write to:
Constructive criticism, comments, suggestions, folding money, hamsters:
